Weather closes campus …temporary

Due to potentially hazardous road conditions early this morning, classes at the main campus in Cullowhee and at the Biltmore Instructional Site will be suspended until 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 11.  After this time, all classes will return to their regular schedule.

In the press release send earlier in the morning the university informs that commuting students concerned about making it to campus safely should contact their instructor.  Staff and faculty concerned about being able to safely commute to work should contact their supervisor.

University offices will be open on a normal schedule and will be operating under Condition Level 1 – Reduced Operations (University is Open).  All WCU employees should be familiar with the Adverse Weather Policy, Policy #41. Commuting faculty and staff should exercise discretion and good judgment in deciding whether to attempt travel during hazardous conditions.

“We will continue to assess weather conditions.  If there are any further changes to class or operating schedules, we will advise everyone and post the information on the WCU homepage at www.wcu.edu.”
According to AccuWeather statement for Northern Jackson County because of the accumulated snow the slippery road conditions are expected in the mountains this morning. Temperatures will remain below freezing across the mountains through the morning hours, rising above freezing this afternoon across the lower elevations.

Temperatures in the higher elevations will likely remain near or below freezing through tonight, keeping slippery road conditions around.

With temperatures expected to fall back below freezing across the lower elevations this evening into Wednesday morning, black ice could become a concern for the evening commute as well as the Wednesday morning commute depending on how much snow melts today.
