The winter season is upon us and with that a potential for fires. It is a season when we burn leaves and brush, when we light fires in the outdoors and with the amount of debris from Hurricane Helene still not cleared the potential for fire in WNC is high.
Philip Jackson, public information officer for the North Carolina Forest Service talked to us for the Whee Life about potential to fire and what you can do to prevent them. Jackson goes more in depth on how most fires are man-made, and fire prevention habits such as fully putting out a fire before leaving, keeping debris away from fire embers, and avoiding burning on windy, non-humid days. Listen to the full interview bellow. Check this map of North Carolina for a potential for fire before you decide to burn.
