Culture, fashion and community came together with the cultural fashion show hosted by the TRUE program. The True program is a collaboration between the education students at WCU and North Carolina A&T State University. The program is designed to support, empower, and develop future educators who are committed to equity, cultural responsiveness, and community‑centered teaching.
The Cultural Fashion Show is event where participants step onto the runway wearing pieces that reflect who they are, culturally or personally. More than just a showcase, the event creates space for identity and self-expression while encouraging a deeper understanding of the diverse backgrounds within the community.
Each look tells a story, giving participants the opportunity to share the meaning behind what they wear and why it matters to them. In doing so, the show fosters connection, builds confidence, and highlights the importance of representation. For future educators, it’s a hands-on example of what it looks like to create environments where people feel seen, heard, and valued.
