For the Oct. 30 Whee Life episode, WCU political science professor Chris Cooper gave us insight to what this midterm election may look like based on his analysis in his Substack channel “Anatomy of a Purple State.”
In a recent analysis, Cooper mentioned three possible outcomes for the 2026 midterm elections in North Carolina.
A blue ripple would mean moderate Democratic increases, with Republicans maintaining control of both parts of the North Carolina General Assembly.
A blue wave could bring more Democratic increases, potentially giving the Democrats the majority in the state House while Republicans retain control of the Senate.
A blue tsunami would mean massive Democratic increases, with Democrats potentially flipping control of both the House and Senate.
Cooper’s analysis examines the districts that could determine how far those increases reach and what the results could mean for the state’s political climate.
We talked with Cooper on the inspiration behind his Substack post, the introduction of artificial intelligence in political media, his election predictions, and his opinion on the competitive race for North Carolina Senate.
